2019 Season of the Geneva Music Festival to Celebrate Women

The 2019 Season of the Geneva Music Festival, held May 24th to June 16th, is titled “Women in Music: Key Players” and the programming represents women’s contributions to music through featured composers, performers, and multimedia. The Geneva Music Festival’s opening night is on Thursday, May 30th and features the Verona Quartet. One of the most sought-after string quartets of its generation, the quartet has performed around the globe. The celebration continues on June 6th with a concert focusing on female composers spanning more than ten centuries and starting with Hildegard von Bingen’s arrangement. Recognized as a saint by the Roman Catholic Church as well as the earliest known female composer ever, Hildegard’s music transports the listener into the landscape of early liturgical music from the 11th century. On Saturday June 8th, 7:30PM, an evening of legendary jazz pays tribute to artists in the National Women’s Hall of Fame with “Bessie, Billie, Ella, and Friends.” Broadway star Syndee Winters will be joined by jazz singer, songwriter, and actress Ann Hampton Callaway with guest appearances by April May Webb and Randall Haywood. The performance is opened by Melissa Kate.
