Glamour + Camping = Yale Manor
If you’ve heard of a portmanteau, you may have encountered the word glamping. Glamping is a portmanteau, or a made-up word from a combination of two others, that blends the words glamour and camping. And yes, it is a word. An actual word. In 2016, the word “glamping” was added to the latest edition of the Oxford English Dictionary: [noun] – a form of camping involving accommodation and facilities more luxurious than those associated with traditional camping e.g. ‘glamping is likely to satisfy any city slicker seeking a little refuge in nature—without foregoing any of life’s luxuries’. Sounds about right.
But despite the recent surge in the trend, the real root of luxury camping goes back centuries. Throughout history, glamping was a favorite recreation for the famous monarchs of Europe and the Middle East. It allowed rulers to display lavishly the wealth of their courts and experience the outdoors alongside the luxuries of their time or retreat into comfort while traveling on a military campaign. The Ottoman sultans were famous for their palace-like tents and Henry VIII once “glamped” so extravagantly in his golden-walled tent with the King of France that the festival-like event became known as The Field of the Cloth of Gold.
At Yale Manor, glamping is more than just a dictionary entry or a great party with the nearest monarch. At Yale Manor, glamping means a luxurious and private getaway in a Mongolian style tent, known as a yurt. It means a full bath with a walk-in shower, king-sized memory foam 12” mattress, lakeside views, and even a fireplace inside your tent. It means enjoying one of the most beautiful and unique landscapes in the world while also savoring resort-style services, amenities, and luxuries. It’s about the escapism, recreation, and adventure of the outdoors alongside those modern comforts we can go without, but don’t want to.
Come to Yale Manor and stay with us glamping style; you’ll be staying in the only yurts in the scenic Finger Lakes region of New York.
