It’s Thyme for the Wine and Herb Festival
For any green thumb or outdoors-lover, Cayuga Lake Wine Trail’s Annual Wine and Herb Festival is the event for you. It combines the fun and deliciousness of wine tasting with the joy we often find in gardening, fresh air, and the warmth of those mid-Spring months. At the Wine and Herb Festival, you will taste both wine and herb-prepared cuisine with delectable seasoning specially crafted to complement the other. You can view a recipe collection from last year’s event by visiting the website to get an idea of the things you will be tasting and learning how to make over the weekend.
But enough about savoring the food samples and sweet wine. Let’s talk numbers. The Wine and Herb Festival is held over two weekends: April 28 to April 30 and May 5 to May 7. Either weekend make it a fun Friday evening with open hours 1-5PM, or a weekend day trip on Saturday and Sunday from 10AM-6PM. Pick your starting point anywhere you want when you purchase your tickets at the website as well as which day you’ll be starting. The Festival is a weekend event with an entry to win a grand prize at the end. Just between us, though, I’m in it for the wine. These 16 wineries will not disappoint; I recommend starting at our neighbor, Knapp Winery and Vineyard Restaurant, on Saturday. Tickets include a souvenir glass, a potted herb plant, three additional tastings, garden guide, plant carrier, and a recipe collection. Another option you have is the Designated Driver discount tickets, which will reduce your price if you designate someone that will not be drinking (DD tickets also include the same perks).
The Wine and Herb Festival is a perfect way to start something new this summer and the timing couldn’t be better to begin growing healthy plants or tasty herbs in your own backyard that you can use for homemade, all-natural cooking.
