Scenic Fall Foliage Drive Along Route 14

Harvest time is one of the best times to visit the Finger Lakes wine country. The climate that helps produce stellar grapes is also perfect for creating epic fall foliage that explodes into reds, oranges and golds. To truly enjoy the peak foliage, there's nothing like a scenic drive following the curves of our glacier-formed lakes. One route we recommend for leaf peepers is a leisurely trip heading north on Route 14 along the west side of Seneca Lake, with a few memorable stops along your journey.

This northbound trip starts in Watkins Glen and ends 35 miles later in Geneva, keeping picturesque Seneca Lake to your right. As you view the vibrant colors and their reflection on the lake water, make your first stop at Villa Bellangelo Winery, where the focus is on Rieslings, Chardonnays and Cabernet Francs. A guided tasting of six wines and a welcome pour is available in the main tasting room, or choose a self-guided sampling on the patio. No matter where you sip your wine, the view from Villa Bellangelo does not disappoint!

As you continue north on Route 14, enjoying the breathtaking autumn view overlooking Seneca Lake, stop in at Billsboro Winery, a boutique winery housed in a century-old barn. Sample their wines in the ample tasting room, or enjoy a glass (or two) while relaxing on the patio. Specializing in dry wines, their focus on small-scale production allows them to pay close attention to detail to ensure the highest quality products.

At the conclusion of your stunning scenic drive, a romantic dinner awaits at Ports Cafe. Once a convenience shop for lake visitors, Ports Cafe has transformed over the years to become a fine dining destination in a casual setting. With seating in the dining room or on the all-season patio, guests will find a mouthwatering menu featuring house-cut prime steaks, fresh fish and homemade desserts.
