Visit a 17th Century Seneca Town and Longhouse
Ganondagan State Historic Site in Victor, NY is a National Historic Landmark. The 569-acre site was the original location of a 17th century Seneca town named Ganondagan that had existed peacefully for almost 400 years. Take a guided tour to experience the culture and values of the Seneca and Iroquois and to learn about the importance of Ganondagan.
Explore the full-size Seneca Bark Longhouse, fully furnished to reflect the typical lifestyle of a Seneca family in the late 1600s. You can also visit the newly built Seneca Art and Culture Center which contains exhibits celebrating Iroquois contributions and achievements to art, culture, and society. The Center includes the Exhibit Gallery, Orientation Theater, auditorium, and gift shop. Take a moment to watch the “Iroquois Creation Story” film. Outside, the grounds include two signed interpretive hiking trails that serve to inform visitors about the significance of plant life, Iroquois culture, and history. Nearby, a third trail explores the history and importance of Fort Hill, a large palisaded granary.
