At the historic Smith Opera House, visitors and nearby residents have the opportunity to participate in, foster, and enjoy diverse performances of arts, films, and more. Since 1894, the Smith Opera House has thrived as the center stage of the Finger Lakes, offering quality cultural opportunities with public events. The theatre has remained a symbol of historic preservation and burgeoning creative talent for the community, renowned for being an expertly constructed concert hall with world-class performances and magnificent acoustics.
The theatre seats 950 on the main orchestra floor and 450 in the balcony. Additionally, the historic theatre screens films on a 40 by 30 foot screen. Participants in the community include Hobart and Williams Smith Colleges and nonprofit organizations such as Geneva Concerts and Geneva Theatre Guild.
The Smith Opera House is available for guided tours to experience the rich heritage and lore and enjoy the unique architecture of the theatre. Tours are offered at 10AM on Wednesdays through October and mark the beginning of a year-long celebration of the theatre’s 125th anniversary, which takes place Oct. 29, 2019.
This November, the Geneva Concerts series presents the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra with conductor Carlos Kalmar and the talented Ahrim Kim on cello. Born in South Korea, Kim began her cello studies at the age of six and was soon attending Juilliard. The orchestra will be performing Galanta Dances by Kodaly, Schumann’s Cello Concerto in A Minor, Op. 129, Haydn’s Symphony No. 98 in B-flat Major, and Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody #1.
