Visit the Harriet Tubman National Historic Park
Harriet Tubman acted in many ways to fight for her people. She was known as a soldier, a nurse, and a “conducter” on the Underground Railroad. Whatever story you know her best for, like the $40,000 reward placed on her head by bounty hunters, there is no denying that she is one of the country’s greatest heroes. Born into slavery, Tubman escaped and would go on to make thirteen missions that successfully rescued seventy enslaved people. During the Civil War, she served as an armed scout and spy for the Union, and years later, Tubman was an activist in the struggle for women’s suffrage that had its roots in the Finger Lakes as well.
During your stay with us in the Finger Lakes, one location worth visiting is the Harriet Tubman National Historic Park, where Harriet Tubman lived out her days of freedom in the local area. The Harriet Tubman Home shares Tubman’s core values through guided tours of the property that immerse visitors in the history and triumphs of Tubman’s life. It’s a great opportunity to learn about a vital part of American history and honor a woman whose legacy has reached across all racial lines, economic divisions, and political boundaries.
The Harriet Tubman Home is open to visitors Tuesday through Friday from 10AM-3PM. Tours last approximately one hour. Click here for more information.
