Visit the Historic Rose Hill Mansion
It’s the end of summer and there’s no better way to celebrate than with a relaxing and final last retreat to the Finger Lakes. With the long stretches of sparkling lakes, rolling hills of green, and enchanting forests surrounding us with hidden waterfalls, you’ll be completely charmed by your bed and breakfast getaway.
Nearby, Rose Hill Mansion offers its beautiful estate for tours, wine tasting, and more. The calendar is full this September so take advantage of the opportunity to get to know the Finger Lakes a little more intimately at Rose Hill. The towering columns and linear structure creates a temple-like Parthenon that is a paragon of the 19th-century Greek Revival style. And the inside is full of valuable and elegant antiques in the Empire style as well as breathtaking wallpaper and woodworking.
This September, take the special monthly Behind-the-Scenes tour of Rose Hill Mansion. The tours are held on the first Saturday of every month (September’s is on the 2nd). The tour is different than the regular tours offered and gives visitors a chance to see parts of the mansion that aren’t usually open to the public, like the basement and the square tower on the roof, the belvedere. The belvedere has an incredible vantage point that makes it one of the best locations in the area for a breathtaking panoramic view.
Rose Hill Mansion also hosts another special, limited-time tour called A Taste of Rose Hill. This tour focuses on the history of food and food production at Rose Hill, informing visitors on the fascinating story of this busy farm during mid- and late-1800s. Discover the changing process of production, preservation, and preparation of food as new machines and standards were created. The tour also includes samples of 19th century style foods. The Taste of Rose Hill tour is one hour long and starts at 2PM. Admission costs $12 for adults.
The estate’s third event this September is the annual Food and Wine Celebration on September 23rd. Enjoy the tastes of harvest season as the sun sets over Seneca Lake. Savor hors d’oeuvres and wine provided by area restaurants and wineries. Pre-sale tickets cost $30 per person and $35 at the door.
